9 Day Kyrgyzstan Off-Road Adventure

After a hearty breakfast, bid farewell to Chon Kemin and set off for the high-altitude jewel of Song-Kol Lake. The scenic drive takes you through the dramatic, rock-strewn landscapes of Kok Moinok Canyon and over high mountain passes. As you ascend, the views transform into vast, open jailoo (summer pastures) where nomadic herders tend their flocks. Arrive at the lake (3,016 m) in the afternoon and settle into your yurt camp on the shore. The rest of the day is yours to immerse yourself in the nomadic way of life—take a stroll along the lake, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy a traditional Kyrgyz dinner inside the cozy yurt.

Wake up to the serene beauty of Song-Kol and enjoy a morning horseback ride along its vast shoreline, surrounded by endless green pastures and grazing herds. After lunch in the town of Naryn, journey deeper into the remote mountains to Tash Rabat. This remarkable 15th-century stone caravanserai is hidden in a secluded valley and served as a key sanctuary for Silk Road travelers. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of this well-preserved historical site, feeling the echoes of ancient merchants and their caravans. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay in a yurt camp near this legendary site.

Today’s adventure takes you through some of Kyrgyzstan’s most wild and untouched landscapes towards the Chinese border. The drive is spectacular, traversing rugged valleys and crossing the high-altitude Kyndy Pass. You will stop for a picnic lunch by a rushing mountain river. Your destination is the breathtaking Kel-Suu Lake, an alpine marvel known for its stunning turquoise waters, which are nestled between dramatic, towering cliffs. Check into a simple yurt camp in the late afternoon. The remainder of the day is free for you to absorb the profound silence and majestic beauty of the surrounding Kok-Kiya Valley

After an early breakfast, set out to explore the magnificent Kel-Suu Lake. You can choose to hike or ride on horseback to reach the best viewpoints overlooking the vivid turquoise water. If weather conditions allow, you may have the chance to take a boat ride on the lake for an up-close view of its sheer cliffs and caves. Day 7. Bokonbaevo – Karakol (South Coast Highlights)
This day is dedicated to exploring the dramatic natural wonders along the south coast of Issyk-Kul. Your first stop is the mesmerizing Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon, a landscape of wind-sculpted red and yellow sandstone formations that create a surreal, otherworldly atmosphere. Next, you will visit the powerful Barskoon Waterfalls, where you can take a short hike to a viewpoint to feel the spray of the cascading water. Your final nature stop is the iconic Jeti-Oguz Gorge, famous for the striking “Seven Bulls” rock formation and the poignant “Broken Heart” cliff. After a day filled with stunning scenery, you will arrive in the city of Karakol for a well-deserved dinner and overnight in a comfortable hotel.

After breakfast, you will transfer to the trailhead and embark on an exciting off-road journey by classic Russian 4×4 vehicle into the spectacular Altyn Arashan Valley. The name “Altyn Arashan” translates to “Golden Spa,” a tribute to its renowned natural hot springs. The valley is a pristine paradise of alpine meadows, glacial rivers, and soaring peaks. Upon arrival, you can take a short hike to soak in the magnificent views or simply relax and unwind in the outdoor hot springs. Dinner and overnight will be in a simple, rustic guesthouse or yurt you in the tranquil mountain atmosphere.

Enjoy one last morning in the serene beauty of Altyn Arashan before taking the 4×4 vehicle back to Karakol. Upon arrival, embark on a city tour to discover its unique cultural heritage. You will visit the picturesque Russian Orthodox Holy Trinity Church, a wooden architectural gem, and the extraordinary Dungan Mosque, built in a distinctive Chinese Buddhist style. The tour concludes with a visit to the vibrant Karakol Bazaar, a sensory delight of local sounds and smells. After lunch, begin the long drive back to Bishkek. The journey follows the northern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake, offering beautiful views. Arrive in Bishkek in the evening for a farewell dinner and overnight at your hotel.
